Productions.com: A place for filmmakers

The Problem
As we performed the initial UX audit for the company’s website, the results according to analysis of usability metrics were satisfactory and Productions.com complies with best UX design practices/standards. However, as we moved forward with research, competitive & comparative analysis, and user testing/surveying, it quickly became apparent that the main issue Productions.com was having was its lack of an adaptive web design.
Initial surveys sent out to target users (working professionals within the film community) were sent back with many questions left blank. Many users who were asked to participate added in the comments that due to their inability to navigate the website on their phones, it was not possible to answer many of the survey questions designed to gather feedback on usability heuristics.
The Goal
In light of this new information, our team made the decision to add a working prototype for a mobile app to the list of deliverables initially requested by our client. Before doing so however, it became necessary to perform research, interviews and consolidation of gathered data in order to best determine the users’ and client’s needs.
The Process
Our team moved forward with affinity mapping in order to highlight the users’ needs. Although there were not as many responses as we had hoped, we were happy to see every user agreed on the need for a mobile application in order to make full use of our client’s services.
The Solution
The Results
Finally, we were able to test the new application with several users and gathered very positive feedback as to the usability of the app. In hindsight, availability of users was a bit of a hurdle our team had to jump through and with more time given for the project and more user data, it would have given us more time to conduct more in depth user interviews and usability tests, but we worked with what we had and were pleased with the results.
